Who is
UNCLE DOUGHBOY?
Uncle Doughboy is a music producer/singer/rapper. He was raised in the musically rich Bay Area and started writing and producing his own songs in the seventh grade. By high school, he had created his own rap collective called "The Criminal Click". He was named Doughboy by friends. He sold demo cassette tapes to his classmates for $5 each. He also threw parties at large halls and would feature himself performing as well as other local rappers. Doughboy also produced tracks for local talent and would often record a verse as a guest on other artists projects.
Doughboy picked up the guitar in his twenties and started himself on his quest for a new sound. This is also when he decided to add "Uncle" to his name in order to denote the difference between his older and newer sound. He is often compared to other artists that have a familiar smoothness with a hip-hop undertone, and has been said to carry the qualities of Sublime, and even the great MJ. Uncle Doughboy calls his music "Feel Good Music".
He has worked with Grammy winning engineers such as Michael Starita (Laura Sullivan) and Howie Weinberg (Gorillaz). He has worked in some of the most famous studios in the World such as the legendary Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco, as well as the super in-demand Bernie Grundman Mastering studios in Hollywood where he worked with one of the biggest names in music production, Brian "Big Bass" Gardner (Dr. Dre, Eminem, Linkin Park), as well as his work on "The Outpatient Tapes E.P." in 2019 with current hit-maker Mike Bozzi (MacMiller, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone).
In early 2013 Uncle Doughboy released his freshman project, "The Uncle Doughboy EP", featuring seven original songs including the highly acclaimed "C'est si Bon". The project was recorded at 4th Street Studios in Santa Monica over three days and was engineered by Sejo Navajas.
In late 2013, Uncle Doughboy returned to the studio with a much more ambitious sound. The sessions resulted in the "4Trax" promo EP and include such songs as "Baby, You Can Dance" and "My Way (C'est si Bon remix)". His magnum opus on that project titled "American Way" is a critically acclaimed ode to alcoholism and explicitly details his struggle to overcome his own crippling habit. UncleDoughboy is currently enjoying sobriety since 2019.
Also in 2019 Uncle Doughboy returned to 4th Street and recorded "The Outpatient Tapes E.P.", a collection of nine songs that Uncle Doughboy says, "lays out the complexities of the human mind affected by mental illness and all it's subtle nuances." Uncle Doughboy hopes that by being another voice speaking up for the experiences of mental illness, that the forebearing stigma may be set aside in place for more open conversation and healing.
Uncle Doughboy is currently enjoying his role being an Uncle in 2022, enjoying the California sunshine, and staying mentally uplifted. He is planning to release a new E.P. very soon. It will be a set of previously unreleased songs spanning his ten year professional music career. "I'm excited to finally get some of these songs out and into the musical atmosphere! My nieces and nephews have been rockin' out to this shit for years!"
